Thank you for all your emails, photos and
videos showing what the children have been doing, they have given us a real
boost. It has been brilliant to see how
resourceful you are being, with items such as toys, stones, pasta, coins,
marbles and flowers being used for Maths activities. There have also been some fantastic pictures
of the Wild character made out of natural resources that you have collected on
your daily walks.
Please find below the tasks for next week.
Maths
Select ‘Summer - Week
3’ (w/c 4th May). Please
watch one video each day and complete the linked activities.
Monday - Can you find and make number bonds to 20?
Tuesday - Can you link addition and subtraction for
numbers to 20?
Wednesday - Can you use part-whole models to find a
missing part?
Thursday - Can you add by counting on?
Friday - Bank Holiday
Consolidate this
learning with practical activities, such as:
·
Practice
your number bonds using songs such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyK8iEO5-GI
(number bonds to 10) and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmLMU8BqyKw
(number bonds to 20)
·
Counting
out groups of toys, moving some to represent one ‘part’ and working out what
the other ‘part’ is.
·
Investigating
fact families and writing linked addition and subtraction number sentences,
e.g. 12 - 8 = 4, 12 - 4 = 8,
4 + 8 = 12, 8 = 4 = 12
·
Writing
sets of addition number sentences, so that children get used to starting with
the answer first:
e.g. 3 + 6 =
9, 6 + 3 =9, 9 = 3 + 6,
9 = 6 + 3
·
Using resources
such as toys/pasta/coins and hoops/paper plates etc to create part-whole models
·
Answering
questions such as “10 people are in the park, then 3 more come in. How many are there altogether?” “You have 14 sweets and then you eat 5. How many do you have left?”

Activity 1 - Can you sequence the
stages of growing a plant?
We know that many of you have been planting
seeds and growing your own flowers and plants at home, so you will be experts
at this! Watch the video to find out what plants need to grow and the
stages of a plant’s lifecycle.
Print the pictures and sequence
them (page 2 is slightly simpler than page 3) to show the stages of
growing a plant. Alternatively, you
could draw your own pictures; or plant your own seeds and take photos of the
different stages. Can you write about
what is happening at each stage?
Activity 2 - Can you identify and label
parts of a flowering plant?
Look closely at some flowering plants on a
walk or in your garden. Can you see
the different parts? What do they all
have in common? Learn about some key parts of a plant and what
their function is.
Draw a picture of a flowering plant and label
the following parts:
roots stem
petal anther leaf
Write a sentence to explain the function of
each part.
Alternatively, you could dissect a flowering
plant, stick the parts back together on a piece of paper and label
these. Make sure you get permission
from your grown-ups first though!

Daily Tasks
I’m sure many of
you will have used the Letters and Sounds daily live phonics lessons. We hope that you have been finding these
useful to revisit/introduce sounds to your children and maintain their phonics
learning. These take place Monday-Friday
at 10.30am for Year 1 and at 11am for children who may need a little extra help
with their sounds and blending.
Remember
that on a daily basis, we also expect children to read a book/use Bug Club to
develop reading skills. We will allocate
extra books when we notice you are getting low, or you can let us know when you
email us.
In
addition, if you are a Lexia user, you can continue to use this from
home.
