Weekly News 7.2.20

It has been a busy week of visits and visitors.

Both Caterpillars and Ladybirds Class had a lovely time at Easton College on our Multiskills trip. We took part in various games and activities to practise many different sporting skills such as jumping, throwing, running, co-ordination and teamwork. We were VERY impressed with the children's behaviour and sportsmanship; they showed excellent resilience and cheered on children from other schools.

In English this week we found out that Claude (the character in our story) visited an art gallery. Our role play area is now an art gallery so we wrote persuasive sentences to encourage people to come and visit it. We used the conjunctions 'and' and 'because' to give more information and reasons. Some children used adjectives to entice people such as 'precious' and 'famous'. We then chose our best sentence to write up neatly, using pre-cursive handwriting if we could, and made a group poster.

In Maths this week we celebrated 'Number Day' on Friday by learning about numbers to 50. We counted forwards and backwards, sang songs, and practised recognition. It was nice to see everyone's Number Day costumes.

In Computing this week we started learning about algorithms. Algorithms are instructions given to a computer. We made a simple lego model and took photos of each stage. We then gave these pictures, the algorithm, to other children to see if they could follow it.

In Art this week we looked at the famous artist L.S.Lowry's work. He was famous for his industrial city paintings. We have begun creating our own Lowry piece by sketching a city scene. Many children enjoyed using perspective to draw smaller buildings in the distance.

On Thursday the whole school had a visit from a man called Simon. He came as part of our 'Gr8 as U R' scheme. Simon is paralysed from the waist down and has a special, robotic walking device that he wears to help to walk. He has walked marathons and beaten a Guinness World Record title. It was an incredibly inspirational talk/visit and clearly gave us all the message that there is no such thing as 'I Can't'. As a school we will now be completing our Gr8 as U R 'CanDo' challenge.
