Tea Party with the Queen!

We have had a fantastic start to our new ‘Bright Lights, Big City’ topic. On Tuesday we came dressed in our best party clothes because we had been invited to a tea party with the Queen. We spent the morning making ham, cheese and jam sandwiches with little flags in, we made bunting to decorate and also learned about the role of the Queen and the Royal family. In the afternoon the hall was all set up for our afternoon tea and the Queens arrival, we even made her a throne and a red carpet. We had cups and saucers laid out and lots of the children tried tea with their sandwiches and party rings. The Queen couldn’t stay for the whole afternoon because she is very busy and her driver was waiting but after that we went outside for games. The games included cricket, croquet, hoopla, skipping, skittles and welly tossing.

Roy Lichtenstein

We have been learning about Pop Art and the
artist Roy Lichtenstein.
He created bright comic artwork with ben day dots.
We had a go at creating our own group paintings using paint and felt tip in primary colours with cotton buds and punchinella as a stencil for the dots.

We are loving our Superhero topic...

We have been having lots of fun with our superhero topic. We enjoyed listening to several of  the stories in the Supertato series. Then one morning we realised we had no pears for our snack. We then spotted a few pieces of fruit had been stuck to a board with plasters and masking tape. The children then spotted a letter on our white board. When we opened it we realised it was a letter from the evil pea in Superato, he had stolen our fruit and wouldn't tell us where it was. The children made excellent  wanted posters and luckily later in the morning we found the fruit in the kitchen.

We have also enjoyed learning how to solve multiplications using arrays.
We have made a superhero array city in Maths.

 Here is our display...

SUPERHERO WOW DAY!

Wow what an exciting start to our new superhero topic. On Wednesday we all dressed as superheroes and the whole year 1 base had lots of activities to choose from. These included making vegetable heroes after reading Supertato, fruit kebabs because we want to be healthy and strong like superheroes, lolly stick heroes, superhero wands, masks and shields and we made some slime!
We also had fun in the superhero photo booth.

The Way Back Home Assembly

Wow, what a super assembly from all of the year 1 children. They did such a super job of learning their lines and sharing lots of space facts. They also remembered all of the actions for telling the story through talk for writing - this is where they used pictures to help them retell the story using actions. Our Martian and Boy were fantastic actors too. The planets brought in for the children's home learning made a superb back drop for our stage. We hope you enjoyed it and here are some photos for anyone who missed it.
