Weekly News w/c 04/02/19

This week in our mystery Power of Reading book, Claude visited a hospital with his poorly friend, Sir Bobblysock.  The other patients in the waiting room had some interesting looking conditions, so we took on the role of doctors and diagnosed what was wrong with them.  We then suggested how we could treat the patient and wrote this for our Wonderful Writing.

In maths, we continued our work on direction and followed a series of directions to help a poor teddy, who was lost in London, find his way home.  As part of this lesson, we learnt about clockwise and anti-clockwise turns.

On Thursday, we enjoyed our Multi Skills trip.  We tried lots of different activities and Riley and Addison (Ladybirds) received special certificates for Sportsmanship for their positive attitudes and how they encouraged the other members of their teams.

In science, we continued to learn about the properties of materials and this week, we tested some to find out whether they were absorbent.  We made predictions about whether they would soak up all of the water, some of it or none at all.  We also learnt what we need to do to make our experiment a 'fair test'.  See if we can remember!

Next week, we will be finishing our Bright Lights, Big City topic with a special treat, which the children do not know about!  All will be revealed later in the week!

Finally, we would appreciate any cereal boxes, shoe boxes or other cardboard boxes that you no longer require to use for our science project.

Thank you and have a lovely weekend,
Year 1 Team
