Weekly News w/c 28/01/19

This week in Caterpillars 🐛, we have continued with our Power of Reading ‘mystery’ book.   We freeze framed a scene in the book and wrote speech or thought bubbles to show what we imagined the character would say or think.  These are going to become part of a lovely display in the hall.

Then, Claude became a hero when he foiled a robbery.  We wrote questions we wanted to ask the characters involved and then conducted a press conference to find out more information.

In maths, we have been focusing on position and movement.  We have practised describing the position of different objects using 'left', 'right', 'above', 'below', 'between' and 'next to'.  We also had fun working with a partner to give and follow directions to see if we could re-create shape pictures.

In science, we conducted some simple tests to find out if various items were waterproof, transparent or magnetic.

The children enjoyed sharing their homework today and it was a pleasure seeing all their lovely work.  Next week's spelling words to practise are:
of
said
be
he

During our phonics session next Friday, we will see how many of the 16 words they can remember - so keep practising!

Have a lovely weekend,
The Year 1 Team
